Wesetal-Trail

The Wesetal nature trail is an adventure trail on the topics of history, culture, nature and water in the Wesetal. It leads hikers and cyclists through authentic lore from ancient times for a moment into the past. At Giflitz, where the Wesebach flows into the Eder, the educational trail branches off from the Ederauen adventure trail. Via Kleinern it leads upwards through the romantic Wesetal to Gellershausen.

Twelve attractive stations are about mills, iron hammers, wood vinegar, stream creatures, mineral springs and shepherds. Under the motto "Reading traces" you will discover the remains of an old cultural landscape and the former iron industry of the region. In between, there are opportunities for rest and relaxation, sports and games.

Sporty cyclists should continue to follow the Wesebach valley: Through Frebershausen you reach the Kellerwald plateau near Frankenau. On this earth history tour from the Eder valley to the plateau, you can experience the valley formation and dissection of the Kellerwald in the last 2 million years quasi backwards - from the wide Eder valley, characterized by ice-age terraces and the current river floodplain, to narrow, steep valley gorges and finally to the flat initial relief (so-called "hull plains") of the Tertiary period.

Tip

You can also experience the Earth History Tour by car. Start at the Eder River and follow the Wesebach Valley to Frankenau.
