The visitor mine "Grube Christiane" in Adorf

A fascinating world awaits you, not only "underground".

Red iron ores were formed on the flanks of a submarine volcanic sill in the Middle Devonian (about 380 million years ago). These were mined in the Adorf mining district for over 700 years. There are numerous references to mining in the landscape, the history and development of which are vividly presented in the "Grube Christiane" visitor mine and the adjoining interactive information center.
