Bergfreiheit Wave

"Surf" through the history of the earth, here at the Bergfreiheit Wave!

The formerly horizontal, Paleozoic rock layers, were formed into this textbook saddle by tectonic forces during mountain building.

The rocks are about 300 million years old and consist of siliceous shale (colloquially) or radiolarite. Contrary to what the name suggests, the main component of the rock is quartz!
