Knorreichenstieg

The "Knorreichenstieg" is a nature trail about 17 km long. It leads the hiker through the grandiose natural forests on the northern edge of Lake Edersee between the village of Asel and the Scheid peninsula. The ancient, gnarled oaks on the steep slopes of Lake Edersee have given it its name.

The trail begins at the famous "Nelkenstieg" with occurrences of the Europe-wide endangered Pentecostal carnation. Through impressive forests and ice-age boulder dumps, on which trees have not been able to gain a foothold to this day, the trail passes the remains of the ramparts of Hünselburg Castle to the Kahler Haardt. Here one of the last primeval forests of Central Europe grows on hardly accessible slopes. More than 800 year old gnarled oaks, steep rocky slopes with a heat-loving, partly Mediterranean flora and magnificent views over the Edersee - experience the charm and the greatness of uninfluenced nature!

Tip

Start your hike on the Knorreichenstieg at the "Striedereiche" hiker's parking lot behind the Asel cemetery. Along the Aseler Bucht, the trail first goes uphill and then parallel to the contour line along the northern slope of the Edersee. The path is marked with a wild service tree leaf. Guided hikes with rangers of the Kellerwald-Edersee Nature Park are also possible!
